AB Comm Program welcomes studes for SY '19-'20

The CSU Alliance of AB Communication Students (ACTionS) conducted its welcome assembly at the College of Arts and Sciences Conference Hall on the afternoon of August 19, 2020.

The event aimed to orient the AB Communication students on the policies, the curriculum, the opportunities, and the expectations in store in the program for the school year 2019-2020. Dr. Jomel B. Manuel, the Department Chair of Arts and Humanities, shared an inspirational message on behalf of the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Jane R. Sambrana. He said that AB Comm students are known for their creativity and innovativeness not only in CAS but also in the campus, and in the university. Proof of these is the creative media productions, outputs, and countless event coverage in the community and in the university.

Meanwhile, Mr. Jan Justin C. Rodriguez, the AB Communication Program Coordinator, oriented the students about the following: a) Introduction of the AB Comm Program and its brief history, b) the AB Comm curriculum and course descriptions, c) introduction of the College of Arts and Sciences, d) introduction of the CAS and AB Comm faculty members, e) activities of AB Communication program along Instruction, Research, Extension, and Production, and f) achievements of the AB Comm Program in socio-cultural competitions, film productions, and other fields. Moreover, Mr. Rodriguez emphasized that the Mission and Vision of CSU, its intended graduate attributes, and the AB Comm Intended Learning Outcomes will be the guiding principles and building blocks of each AB Communication student to achieve success. Also, this is to ensure that AB Comm graduates will be able to utilize the theories and principles learned in the classroom to help solve real-life issues. The program coordinator also reiterated the need for every AB Communication to be creative, innovative and competitive. He even reminded them to display excellence in everything they do, be it in their day to day communication and dealings in media productions, in socio-cultural activities, and most especially, in academics.

Along with the presence of the first and second year AB Comm students, are other AB Communication core faculty members namely Ms. Patrianne M. Padua and Mrs. Yrmeliza Villegas- Rodriguez who also gave inspirational messages and tips on how to creatively survive in the AB Communication program. Ms. Teresa Campos, a reporter from DWPE Radyo Pilipinas-Tuguegarao and one of the lecturers of the AB Comm program also graced the event.

The elected officers and outgoing officers were introduced and held their official turn over ceremonies. The oath-taking ceremonies for the school year 2019-2020 followed with Dr. Manuel as inducting officer. The newly elected and appointed officers were the following: President - Dan Aldrich Angeles Vice President – SJ Darauay Secretary- Rodel Gabun Treasurer- Kimberly Magaoay Auditor- Mark Jade Etsa Business Managers/IGP Coordinators- Jefferson Olangco and Jonathan S. Lavadia PIOs- Ronald Badiang and Danica P. Astudillo KKK (Kaisahan ng Kabataan sa Kalikasan) Program Coordinators- Leian Acera and Jennifer Cardenas Linkages and Partnership Coordinators- Lorielyn Rendon and Rowena Caccam Media Productions Coordinator- Alicia Marayag and Aleli Gargar Socio-cultural Coordinators- Ma. Angelica C. Godilano and Lovely Fieror.

The showcase of talents of the AB Comm students highlighted the program. The event was successfully organized by the outgoing CSU ACtionS officers led by its OIC President, Jonathan S. Lavadia.
